Backpacking During the Holidays

IMG_2577

Growing up, I was always around family for the holidays. I celebrated Christmas with my immediate as well as extended family on both sides. In December 2015, that changed. I backpacked the United Kingdom during the month of December, which meant I would be away from my family holiday traditions for the first time. I would miss out on Christmas on both sides of my extended family and cousin gift exchanges. With my immediate family, I would miss the tradition of Junk Food Day. It’s a day where we go to the grocery store and buy junk food we normally don’t eat. I wasn’t sure how it would go. To say I was blown away by my friend’s hospitality was be an understatement.

Every family I stayed with was incredibly gracious. I experienced my first English Premiere game, experienced the German markets in Manchester and Birmingham, and have a most festive Christmas in Liverpool. I’ll never forget having Christmas in Liverpool. I woke up Christmas morning and my good friend Jesse told me to come down for presents. My parents gave me money for my trip, so I figured I would watch him open his presents and celebrate with his family. When I get down there, his parents pointed to a pile of presents and told me they were for me. I was speechless. I had no idea this would happen. I still smile when of this memory. I thought “I have nothing to give back”, “How will I bring all of this home”, and “This is more than I get at home. I should try this more often”. We spent the morning opening and enjoying presents. That night, I took part in a very delicious five-course meal with friend’s family.

I had fun eating with my friends and their families and learning about how their traditions. I learned Boxing Day is an actual holiday. It’s a bank and public holiday, so families get another day to spend time together. Boxing Day originated in the 1800s. IT’s also a full day of watching futbol (soccer) and so I watched my friend’s favorite team Liverpool play. I celebrated that day almost as much as Christmas.

I learned the families I stayed with had more formal traditions than my own family. My family has a laid back Christmas. I fondly enjoyed dressing up and having nicer meals and afternoon tea. I could most certainly celebrate the holidays in England again.

Christmas Fly!

It’s that time of year again! Everyone is preparing for their annual Holiday Parties and you, ironically, have absolutely NOTHING to wear! You can’t just show up in any old rages because you have to match everyone’d Christmas Fly.

In this post, I have compiled 3 different outfits for 3 different types of holiday parties.

IMG_3146

We all go to them and someone hosts an ugly Christmas sweater party at least once in their life but this outfit is a little different. We still keep the ugly sweater theme BUT we’re making it cute too!

IMG_3145

The casual holiday attire is exactly what it means…CASUAL! Unlike the ugly sweater outfit it’s casual but not too causal that you just lounge around the house. This outfit is prefect for the office holiday party.

Now I don’t know who exactly hosts formal holiday parties but someone out there does and if you’re invited to one you must come prepared to slay! So dress up in white and pair it with your baddest red heels, bag, and lips! The gold earrings make the outfit pop by adding a bright element to the outfit.

I think you’re ready! You are officially ready to head to the party and make heads turn! No one will be able to tell that you had nothing to wear and hey it can be our little secret. I won’t tell if you won’t!

My Christmas Wishlist

It’s that time of year again! We are all getting our Christmas wishlist’s together & dropping hints to any and all family members hoping someone will get the hint. I, although I am 20 years old, am one of those people!

Here are 8 things that are on my Christmas Wishlist this holiday season!

  1. Disney Size Small Minnie Mouse Plaid Pom Pom Slipper Boot (Size: XL)

So if you haven’t already figured it out I am a HUGE Mickey & Minnie Mouse fan! I own many Mickey & Minnie Mouse related items and still adding more to the collection. Being a college student slippers, especially in the cold season and whenever you just don’t feel like wearing real shoes, are one of the essentials! You and can walk to your class, be comfortable, and wear your favorite character on your feet!

2.  ColourPop Can You Knot Lip Bundle

I am a lip gloss junkie! I love different shades and will try almost any color that’s in reason. It’s fun to know that my lip color can tie an entire outfit together. This season I am in need of darker colors. I LOVE ColourPop because the colors are so vibrant and it doesn’t leave a clumpy finish.

3. Dollhouse Jersey

The Dancing Dolls…what else can I say? Again I’m a huge fan & would love to just have a jersey. Now if I could get it autographed I’d frame it but we gotta start small! DD4L!!!

4. The Walking Dead Fringe Blanket

Like a million other people in this world I am also a Walking Dead fan! It’s just something about the Walker’s coming to attack the living that gives me an adrenaline rush! What better way to watch the show while bundled up with a Walking Dead blanket?

5. Renaissance Key Pendant

Key pendents have always been so priceless to me and being in bronze makes it more rustic. It’s the cliché, “You have the key to my heart” that has drawn me to the key necklace concept.

6.  Carlos by Carlos Santana Sunglasses Tote

I don’t carry tote bags often but this one is so cute! It’s different and I would proudly strut my stuff with this bag in tow!

7.Report Lupone Sandal

Caged heels are new to me and I find them very different by still cute and edgy! I love cute and edgy but I have always had an issue finding a shoe store that carries my shoe size. This shoe is a MUST as soon as my size is available!

8. A Beautiful Home

Character’s Halloween 2016

Halloween…the time of year where you can be anything or anyone you want without being judged. You can be something gruesome such as a  Walker or go for something more classic such as a Disney Character.

Let’s be honest, once you reach a certain age dressing up doesn’t seem fun anymore but I beg to differ. It’s one day out of the year you get to be a kid again. I love dressing up for Halloween although I haven’t done so in a few years but this year I got the chance to dress up twice!

At my university we have an event every year called Boo at the U where organizations get together and do something for the community. Boo at the U is an opportunity to trunk-or-treat, go through the haunted house, meet firemen, and so much more. This year my organization, Student Council for Exceptional Children, got together and participated in trunk-or-treat where our truck them was Cookie Monster!

Now I must admit I didn’t wear an actual Cookie Monster Costume but I was his favorite treat…a giant COOKIE! For this outfit I simply wore a Cookie Monster blue top with jeans and tan boots.

20161020_181052-1For the giant chocolate chip cookie the following items were used:

  • Cardboard Box  Pieces
  • Black Construction Paper
  • Scissors
  • Glue

Now all you do is cute the cardboard piece into whatever circular shape you please, cut out chocolate chips from the black construction paper, and finally just glue them on and allow it to dry. Tada! You have a chocolate chip cookie that Cookie Monster himself would be proud to eat!

For my second costume I went for a storybook character that almost everyone knows. She walked through the woods to visit her grandma and met a wolf instead. If you haven’t already guessed I was Little Red Riding Hood! This specific costume was for Storybook Dress-up Day at work  so I celebrated Halloween early.

For my Little Red Riding Hood costume I had to add a few more pieces but for the most part I had everything I needed!

I previously purchased a Black Dress from Rue 21 which was perfect for this costume! I also had the flats, accessories, basket, and a white pillowcase (yes I said pillowcase) handy. The only thing I purchased were my fishnet tights which were $5 at Walmart and my apron which was also purchased from Walmart was $9. I purchased my cape at Halloween Spirit for $16.16.

Put it all together and you have your favorite Little Red Riding Hood!

Let’s just say this Halloween was full of fun characters! Even though Halloween fell on a Monday this year, which seriously killed the mood, I made it enjoyable for myself. Now for next years Halloween I already have an idea of what I want to dress-up as but am I going to tell you all now? OF COURSE NOT! You’ll just have to wait and see…(BOO)!

Midterms are in the Air

49cf418ebf533174c6ebce809cb9c85e

It’s about that time for all college students. One of the weeks every college students dread and we all want to drink the week away. We call this week…MIDTERM WEEK!

Can you believe October is actually almost over? I still find it hard to believe. But for me it’s time for midterms and of course I would like to sleep the week away because I am not a good test taker. It’s the one thing I fear most because I feel like I am incapable if I don’t pass.

Thankfully, my semester thus far has been going great! I have wonderful grades, a great job, and have made a few more friends. This semester, like I promised myself, has definitely been different. I am fighting to get to where I want to be.

But back to the task at hand, midterms are truly a force of evil that no college student wants to mess with! Usually, the midterm sets you up for finals and if you’ve heard your professor say, “if you fail my midterm you may fail my final” then you can figure out the rest. So can you imagine me being terrified?

I’d like to wish all college students nationwide good luck. Don’t go crazy on the alcohol and don’t drown in coffee!

P.S-NO I have NOT brought all of my textbooks for my classes…OOPS!
